The
Psychosynthesis approach to counselling takes the view
that each of us has a purpose in life and that
we have challenges and obstacles to meet in order to
fulfil that purpose.
We are not in fact one unified person, but various personalities
and sub-personalities struggling continuously with each
other; impulses, desires, principles and aspirations
are often in conflict.
Our essential task is to
bring clarity and mastery into this confusion, to create
a more unified and 'synthesised' being.
We find when the various elements of our being are in
conflict, our energy becomes blocked and this causes
pain.
However, each time that a synthesis of two or more parts
of our personality occurs, energy is freed and we experience
a sense of profound wellbeing.
This is the essence of Psychosynthesis:
The integration of all our component parts around
a unified centre.
The tendency towards synthesis is inherent within
us.
Psychosynthesis, rather than being
an artificial imposition of techniques, simply unblocks
and stimulates a process that is more closely allied
to us than any other: becoming who we are.
My role is to accept and support
each person in exploring their presenting problems,
while I see and reflect back to them, my sense of their
whole being, including their mental, emotional, physical
and spiritual selves.
Psychosynthesis offers valuable
techniques to support personal growth and to find the
doorways to each individual's creativity and potential,
in an increasingly competitive world. It is a humanistic,
transpersonal approach which can help with a wide range
of of problems.
My
Training and experience
I qualified as a Psychosynthesis 'Guide' in 1993, worked
for 6 years in private practice as well as with a counselling
service for Somerset County Council employees, as part
of a team.
I continued to use my counselling skills in my work
helping to run a meditation and environmental awareness
centre on the Welsh borders for 6 years before returning
to my roots in Dorset in 2006. |
